THE 2021 PDGA AMATEUR DISC GOLF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
DeBary's River City Nature Park hosted multiple rounds for the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) Amateur Disc Golf World Championships in August 2021, including the semi-finals. The organization had scheduled DeBary to host the event in 2020 before canceling due to COVID-19. All four PDGA World Championships were canceled across the county in 2020 since international travel was required for multiple participants. For the 2021 Amateur Disc Golf World Champtionships, nine 18-hole courses were used for the event, two of which were located at River City Nature Park. The tournament took place August 14-21, 2021, and attracted over 150 visitors DeBary's Disc Golf Courses.
The annual event is hosted by Orlando Disc Golf, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose goal is to promote the growth of disc golf as a globally recognized competitive sport.
According to the PDGA website, this event took “years of planning, execution and systematic improvements” to secure the Greater Orlando Area as the host location for 2021.
